I’m a mother to 3 adult children (yea that’s really what I’d call them LOL, my 23 yo daughter often asks a question stating she wants an adultery adults opinion) and 2 bonus adult boys. My husband and I just celebrated 24 years of marriage and live in beautiful SW MI.
As my kids got older and I didn’t have to do as much of the homeschool as they were taking college courses, I began offering creativity classes to other local homeschoolers. It was just something to keep me busy, while doing something I love. It’s since become a full-time gig, including virtual, asynchronous and in person learning, on topics from beginner crochet, drawing, painting, and interior design.
While this has been very fulfilling, I’ve often dreamed of spending the whole day creating with no time schedule or demands. Whimsy & Wit Designs is the beginning of that dream and I’d love you to join me on this amazing journey.
I was a single mother of one boy when I met my husband, so life was very different when I had my daughter. I was over the moon to be a stay at home mom and wanted to document every little thing of her childhood.
Let’s just say my daughter’s 1st year scrapbook is multiple albums. It was during this time that I fell in love with mixing prints and patterns, playing with scales and textures.
It was most definitely something that brought me happiness and joy in the mundane of daily life.
Over the years, life took over and paper crafting took a back seat, but I continued to be in awe of pattern and print mixing, admiring it wherever I went. I knew someday, somehow patterns would be a major part of my life.
I thought I had found how patterns would fit into my life, but it turned out to just be another pull into my true dream as a designer. Jump forward a decade and my kids were getting older, my husband worked from home, so I took on a part time job to help with all the kids extracurriculars.
I took a job as a buyer for a local women’s boutique. Now fashion was never my thing, I adored it, but knew nothing of sleeve styles, hemlines, or fabrics. Of course, I learned all of that and came to truly love my job.
The boutique I purchased for had clientele that didn’t want to see themselves coming and going, they wanted pieces that were unique and quirky, yet sophisticated. I really enjoyed scouting new lines, finding pieces that were more than they appeared in cut, fabrics, and prints. I became friends with the designers and got to talk shop and my love of design was further ignited.
That’s when I learned about surface design and realized I had all the skills needed to start my dream job. I set out to learn everything I could and am so excited to share I am ready to launch Whimsy & Wit Designs. Offering clever, quirky, and unique designs to help you stand out from the crowd.
My patterns help reconnect you with your inner child, they draw on the nostalgia of your life, they help you insert even more YOU into the ins and out of daily life. Most of all they will bring a smile to your face and inspire you to take it one step further, revealing your authentic self to the world.
